[Chorus: The Dream]
There's no mercy on me
No crying myself to sleep
No mercy on me
Nightmares have become my dreams
No mercy for me
Good morning reality
Will I wake? We'll never know
I'm late for my date with destiny
Let me go
Let me go
You've got to let me go
Right or wrong
Let me go
I'm on my path
Let me go
[Verse 1: T.I.]
My mama loved me more than I do
She said, "ya pops was just like you"
Jesus' youngest disciple
Tell the judge if he throw a book at me
Make it The Bible
Started calling myself "The King" for lack of a better title
Loyal beyond belief to my detriment
It's so vital I change or blow opportunities
Like a choir recital
Now while I do not care who telling
Meanwhile, selling powder puts food in the bellies
Well it's unfortunate
The orphanage couldn't keep up the mortgages
Kid go to school stupid, they teachers ignoring it
Sorta just doomed, forced into being a goon , selling kush in a jar
Mixing up the tar in a balloon
Consumed with the same way of life I left
Everything I know now, I learned by myself
The Maserati's, Ferrari's, so they don't sympathize
[Chorus: The Dream]
There's no mercy on me
No crying myself to sleep
No mercy on me
Nightmares have become my dreams
Good morning reality
I'm late for my date with destiny
[Verse 2: T.I.]
Everybody's standing and waitin
Chanting, they' hating
Gospels say they should forgive me
They'd rather hand me to Satan
Blatant, displays the day of hypocrisy
Boy you got to be kidding
Could it be possibly the second coming of Pac is me?
Remember that, when he was here?
And when he died you realized you need him here
God with me partner, ain't no one for me to fear
Future not as clear
But I'm a rider 'till I die
Put bullets 'tween my eye
I just ask that I can make my peace with God and say goodbye
Fuck up the world like Lady Di
On the day he died, his wife and sons and daughters know that every day he tried
To be a better person, nah, they wanted better verses
They could market to the merchants
But when they' closed curtains
You could be for certain ain't nobody perfect
But when you're rich, nobody gives a shit
No mercy
[Chorus: The Dream]
There's no mercy for me
No crying myself to sleep
No mercy for me
Nightmares have become my dreams
No mercy for me
Good morning reality
Will I wake? We'll never know
I'm late for my date with destiny
Let me go
You've gotta let me go
Let me go
Let me go
Let me go!
Unfortunate things happen like orphanages helping several children have a home being shut down due to lack of money to pay a mortgage
This means putting heroin into a balloon then selling it on the street. It’s common for dealers to put the heroin into a balloon, often times called “tar” because of the substance’s color. Putting it into balloons makes it easier to pass hand to hand. As well as overall transport; it’s not uncommon for addicts/dealers to insert the balloons of heroin into their rectum to pass through security. This strategy made its way into pop culture in the film Get Him to the Greek featuring Russel Brand and Jonah Hill.
For people to think of him better, he has to be a better person today.
People get caught up in the life of a drug dealer, like he once was. TI explains his old habits in his song “Dope Boyz”
Here T.I alludes to his struggles with the legal system as he has been in jail twice. He asks himself “Will I wake?” alluding to his speculation of when he is going to stop the cycle of releasing an album, going to jail, etc. This is important because it shows that sometimes drug dealers and other criminals get caught up in what they do that they don’t know what else to do. So instead of public programs being put in place to help them stay out of jail, they are instead put right back into jail where “they are late with their date with destiny” meaning they can’t reach their full potential in jail. So T.I. says “Let me go” as a way to advocate for prison reform which will enable people who are out of jail remain out and become contributing members of society
Because these kids are passing so easily and aren’t getting a real education, they have no choice but to take to the streets and become criminals
Hindsight: recognition of the realities, possibilities, or requirements of a situation, event, decision etc., after its occurrence.
T.I. has 20/20 vision for relating upon past events.
Here T.I suggests that because drug dealers and other criminals are often successful initially, they often don’t get an equal trial or any sympathetic considerations that are given to other crimes. “Nobody feels sorry” for these individuals after seeing “their Masratis and Ferraris” even though the law requires it. Thus they get no mercy from the legal system.
T.I. has called out the flaws in the education system in many of his songs, and specifically that teachers make it too easy for kids to pass, so “kids go to school stupid”
Everybody wanted him to make music to entertain themself and make money by selling them to the “merchants” and they dont give a fuck about the person self anymore.
none of the listeners want whats best for him and his family, to be a better person, they just want him to keep pushin the product they love
T.I. repeatedly mentions his mom in his tracks and her great love for him.
T.I. is supposed to be a lot like his dad, a hustler who made it big, who left his family and moved to Brooklyn when T.I. was young.
Selling coke to put food on the table for the family.
Despite all the hardships, he stays loyal like the people around him
This year after T.I. made album, he again went to jail.
Vicious cycle: Paper Trail -> Jail -> No Mercy -> Jail

Nobody wakes up one day and aspires to be a drug dealer, robber, or a murderer. In fact, T.I calls these “nightmares” that overtime become “dreams” and aspirations because of other underlying factors such as mental illness or poverty.
