Likely a reference to Netrunner, a science fiction card game based in a high-tech Cyberpunk future of computer hackers and androids.
Chess is invoking the idea here of future, space-age drugs. The human race might have succeeded in conquering the stars, but they still like a bit of gear.
A reference to Frank Herbert’s Dune series of science fiction novels, in which ‘spice’ is a much-desired commodity – mined from the dunes of the titular planet Dune.
The novels were adapted into a film in 1984, directed by David Lynch. And a new version more recently in 2021. A legenday proposed-but-never-finished adaptation by Alejandro Jodorowsky was also the subject of a documentary released in 2013.
The Plough is a well-known constellation of stars, visible with the naked eye.

‘Titan’ here can refer to:
- Saturn’s moon, but can also mean how
- Farma G is fighting (and beating) an enemy much larger than he is.
Smirnoff is a brand of vodka and Dandelion and Burdock is a brand of root beer
A black hole is a region of spacetime exhibiting such strong gravitational effects that nothing—not even particles and electromagnetic radiation such as light—can escape from inside it. When talking about astronomy, there are no white giants. White dwarfs do exist however and are stellar remnants composed mostly of electron-degenerate matter. But maybe Jehst has explored regions of the universe that scientists haven’t looked at yet.
“The third rock from the sun” is another way of saying “Earth”.
Stargate is a 1994 science-fiction movie (and later TV series and novels) in which an ancient alien technology is discovered which allows mankind to travel across the stars.
A reference to the previous line. ‘Zoomorphic’ meaning human but having similarities to an animal, in this case a lion.
The Aurora Borealis or ‘Northern Lights’ are a phenomenon visible in the sky over the Arctic and Antarctic. The sky lights up with waves of colour at night, reminiscent of a “light show”.
Jehst returns to earth, a metaphor for returning to normal society. He discovers people are sheep, willing to follow leaders blindly, being fed astro-turf, a metaphor for things that people think they need, perhaps money, big houses or nice cars.
A person’s zodiac sign is defined by their birthdate which gives the position of the stars relative to earth at the time of their birth.
Jehst was born on August 21st, making him a Leo – the “Lion of the Zodiac”.

Battlestar Galactica is an American science fiction media franchise created by Glen A. Larson. It began with the original television series in 1978, and was followed by a short-run sequel series (Galactica 1980), a line of book adaptations, original novels, comic books, a board game, and video games.
Possibly a reference to the phenomenon of ‘Redshift’ which causes light escaping from black holes (“time warp"s) to shift towards the red end of the spectrum.

Definition of soothsayer: a person who predicts the future by magical, intuitive, or more rational means.
This should read “Gattaca” – a reference to the 1997 science fiction film written and directed by Andrew Niccol. In which the main character Vincent is able to gain work on an interplanetary mission with the Gattaca Corporation, despite being a physical “invalid”.
Probably a reference to Han Solo, who was frozen in carbonite in the The Empire Strikes Back.
Stasis is “A state of stability, in which all forces are equal and opposing, therefore they cancel out each other”. One can imagine that things are quite static when frozen in carbonite.
This is potentially a reference to 1960s/70s BBC children’s television programme The Clangers, in which the inhabitants of a moon-like planet are supplied with soup by a benevolent creature named Soup Dragon. Read this way, Jehst supplies the listener with alphabet soup, likely a reference to word-shaped pasta with which one could – at a push – spell out lyrics.
