There was a time, not long ago

When Singapore was under authoritarian rule

The white collars controlled all the money

And used devices to keep people in control

There was no freedom, there was no justice

And we needed to settle the score

Life was a struggle, bitter and hard

Families were hungry and poor

The revolution sparked by a dozen different tongues

But their еnemy all the same

A clarifying act of violеnce

Forever we must remember their names

After the war, we called for change

For the right to decide our fate

A socialist path towards redistribution;

A fair, and equitable state

These are our blocks, our land, our streets

No more hate and fear

People once again started to thrive

Our future became more clear

Everything changed when we took that oath

And united South East Asia as one

Never again will we be see in the headlines

A Burmese coup with Singaporean guns

August nine, nineteen sixty five

A charade used to occur

Now we take the fireworks budget

And make sure we feed the poor

We've come this far, exploiting many lands

One people now we stand

Our forefathers paid the price for their sins;

We took the future in our hands

This is our home, where we belong

Where no flags or statues be

Where all power remains with all the people

To right our histories
