[Spoken Word: NYX]

I’m suffocating from the ghosts around me

Darkness enters my lung and fills me, and

As I exhale I feel more empty than before

Theres nowhere I can call home

I’m not safe anywhere I go

I just try to live my life devoid of

Senselessness

It plagues everyone, not just me

But I was cursed with a god forsaken

Sensory overload when I feel I lost or

Hopeless. I see black and feel

Like I’ve sunken to the bottom of an ocean

The motion of water coursing over me

Leaves me helpless as no one notices

I’m a ghost, and like wise I suffocate

Those around me. I feed off their happiness

And only sometimes do I thank them

Other times its too late

Is it better to have love or loss? I never got to choose

I’ll never know what I’ve lost or what I have to lose

My phone lights up with a text from an old friend

I pretend I didn’t see it, she doesn’t need me anyways

Or at least she didn’t that night

And I choose to believe nothings changed rather than

I’ve made a mistake

At least thats what I’ve learned watching parents and teachers

I grew up in the city of light, but I’m not afraid of the darkness

Because the darkest night is inside of us where no light can

Penetrate when we choose not to let it

So whether we survive is all a state of mind we all get to choose

And I’ve chosen. It’s your turn, make a move
