The Haunting - Intellectual

Now that his love for her is dead, the memories of him and their relationship will now haunt her dreams. It’s kinda like what they say, karma’s a bitch.

Cody is telling future boyfriends of this girl what she does after warning them. He notes that she does it subtly, almost meticulously with her beauty and charm to make them beg for “bullets from her gun” which most likely stands her love and affection. Though, to these poor fellows, it won’t seem like bullets and a gun. Cody refers to them as bullets because he’s been through the pain and now realizes how much it impacted him rendering him unable to leave because it is much harder to escape with bleeding bullet wounds than without them.

No one will be able to please her physically and emotionally like Cody could.

She is so beautiful and seems so great and amazing that everyone follows and admires her.

Cody hints that they are hypnotized by this person.

She has a boy of her dreams, “perfect” but he says her that this boy doesn’t exist, a perfect boy doesn’t exist, but if she finds this boy, so he will swallow his words with poison (it is a challenge, that he thinks impossible, really hard)

These are the “skeletons” in her closet: Dirty secrets (Things that she doesn’t want her peers to know), Empty memories (Those remembrances that didn’t teach her anything, didn’t do anything special for her life), and broken hearts (Heart break caused by tragic breakups from her past). Now the narrator is stuck in this closet becoming all the three things mentioned.

He is telling the people who go after his former love interest to leave before she breaks their hearts as well.

His love for her is now dead. It died overnight “in it’s sleep.” This feeling that he once had for her isn’t alive anymore.

A reference to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s romantic fiction The Scarlet Letter, in which an unloyal woman is forced to wear a red letter A, standing for “adultery,” on her clothes after cheating on her partner. The scarlet letter is meant to be a symbol of shame that follows her around for the rest of her life.

This section gives insight as to why Cody’s relationship didn’t work out — his ex likely cheated on him. This would explain the angst expressed in the chorus, and the way Cody insists that no one could be a better partner for her than he was.

In this line, Cody further implies this girl’s two-faced nature by literally stating how she broke his heart as well as most likely a few others before him. He also implies that she dates only to break their heart which makes her sound even more vicious and cruel.

He was ambushed. Sacked in the head and buried alive in a town with no one in it so if he ever screamed for help, no one would hear him. In other words, she hurt him emotionally and put him in a position where no one can help him. The feeling is truly hopeless.

Having a skeleton in the closet means to have a discreditable or embarrassing fact that someone wishes to keep secret.
The skeletons saying to come inside the closet means that the narrator (Cody) is embarrassing to his significant other. She is probably embarrassed when she’s is with him in public.

Nobody is going to be like he was. She can search the world and in the end, he was the best she could have imagined.
