Highborn

By Set Before Us

She slowly opens her eyes

Breathing in the cold acid air

The pain from her back

Forcing her into the crushing arms of fear

With her vision blurred with pain

With the taste of blood in her mouth

She slowly recalls her name, her origin

She is highborn

Free from the world below

Unaware of pain and suffering until now

Her ethereal beauty is fading

Earhly powers holding her captive

As memories fade back

Despair & panic takes a grip

She falls to her knees

Screaming at the darkening sky

"take me home, take me home"

Her essence cries with pain

A deep breath a look around and she's aware

Not alone, not alone

Grey shapes enclosing her

These beings have nothing

Their clothes are trashed & torn

Their faces don't carry smiles

One approaches, a child by looks

Drawn by the radiant light

In the eyes no flame

We don't know what we have

Until we know what we've lost

A heartbeat passes, her gaze falls

Realization hits like a heated spear

This world, this plane

Forever damned to die

A tear falls from the child

From her extinguished eyes

Cast down, expelled, pariah of the sky

Find me strength, find me hope

To end this mortal pain

Reaching out with newfound courage

With help, feet find ground

A fallen will rise

To soar through through the heavens once more

To soar the heavens once again

She is home
