[Verse 1]

The education system is not looking out for you

It won't tell you why to do it, it'll only tell you how to do

How to read the poem the examiner's way

Lord, imagine a kid had something original to say

Tell AQA I'm not okay

I can write a fucking essay

But still can't remember what I did today

It's out of date

If you don't care the kids won't care

You can tell it to the Department of Education

In their comfy office chairs

To just notice if you've a problem with focus

Allow for some creative process instead of an algebraic hocus pocus

Everybody closes their books when they're home

Because why the fuck would they ever want to open them?

School's not fun

Not meant to be fun

How come for some it feels designed for them to face any challenge and overcome

To the ones who have a mind that exists outside numbers and letters

I pray the education system gets a little better

Not talking about teaching about taxes

Or sex ed classes

I'm talking about a way to cater for all aims

You look at appeasing the masses

As though they're one and the same

Preparing them with something they might never think to use again because

[Refrain]

The education system does not give a flying fuck about you

No no no

The education system doesn't give a fuck about you

[Verse 2]

School is rather uniform

Start 'em early, teach 'em norms

A child is so naive in thought

They listen good and all conform

Where boys can wear the trousers, jumpers

Girls can get the blouses in

Struggling kids are troublesome kids

We've got a medal for everything

Teach you how to act, to talk

To work, to play, to dress, to walk

To fight for first

What you deserve is a telling off with a word of stern

You're far too chatty

Too bossy, too bratty

You're so clever

Take a star

Tell God how grateful you are

Cross your legs

Shut your mouth

Talk between yourselves but keep it down

Verbal bully

Wear a tie

Words'll hurt you

Get in line

Or get a job

You'll be just fine

If you lower your expectations right

You're in good health and decent mind

Might do well in a life of crime

Try to change the world, you can't

We took your world and made it ours

We took your life and gave you a star

Gave you freedom, a wage and a car

We gave you education

A wonderful place to start

Pray to God, sing to God

Tell him how grateful you are

[Verse 3]

Fuck off

You whining little shit

Politely shut the fuck up

It's your life, you're gonna live with it, yeah?

Did you forget what we taught you?

Back when all of this was new?

Wear a jumper, wear a blouse

Wear a skirt, a shirt, a suit

And see the news

No teacher who made the rules

A devil who looks just like you

His brain is power and death and food

He feeds

His office is his guillotine

He took your soul and threw it out and laughed at you as you drifted in between

It'll come so ever clear as your life is slowly sinking

He told you what to think

It was there that you stopped thinking

[Refrain]

The education system does not give a flying fuck about you

No no no

The education system does not care about you

No no no

[Outro]

You can't choose between English and maths

I bet the Secretary of State for education can relate to struggles in class

To them, you are fools

Don't even get me started on private schools
