[Verse 1]
Ooo they said overachieving isn't good for you
It's how I got here where I'm at
[Chorus]
Spiraling spiraling spiraling spiraling down
Spiraling spiraling spiraling spiraling down
[Verse 2]
Who said overthinking isn't good for you?
Just learn to use it to your advantage
I'm sure you all want to know how I do it
Truth be told its a hidden skill sometimes I can't control
Who said overachieving isn't good for mental health?
You'd think it was such a blessing
Since it gets it me everywhere, and people seem to praise it
When did the world become so twisted?
[Pre-Chorus]
But when it gets out of hand
I go spiraling in my mind
[Chorus]
Ooh
Spiraling spiraling spiraling spiraling down
A tunnel
In my mind
Ooh
Spiraling spiraling spiraling spiraling down
A tunnel
In my mind
[Verse 3]
I guess I'm just an attention seeker
Seeking recognition for my achievements
I work so hard
And I get no praise
I make it to the top
And when I fall
That's when I get noticed
How pitiful isn't it?
[Bridge]
I'm striving for someone who really cares
[Chorus]
Ooh
Spiraling spiraling spiraling spiraling down
A tunnel
In my mind
Ooh
Spiraling spiraling spiraling spiraling down
A tunnel
In my mind
This is kind of just an inside look on my life. Overthinking is technically part of my overachieving because of the way those thoughts push out my jealousy and make me want to be better. Or they bring my mood down to the point where I feel pathetic and worthless.
This is meant to be a reference to how much of an overachiever I am. I can become very competitive in things that are in no way competitive, and I get jealous when people are better than me, so I overwork myself to get to a higher level.
This whole chorus is describing how my mind goes into spiraling mode when I start to get into overthinking. Fun Fact: I wrote the chorus in my living room like pacing around in a circle thinking about how I hadn’t written any lyrics for half the songs on H I D D E N W I T H I N.
This plays into what I said earlier about how my overthinking can lead to my overachieving mentality.
Building off of what verse 3 had mentioned, the bridge is more of my inside thoughts. The way I push myself to be a perfectionist, the way I beg for attention for I get recognized, and the way I search for someone who really cares about what I have to show them.
Throughout history, overachieving was commonly seen as good and was a positive trait for a lot of reasons. But now more recently, its become known as a negative trait because of its negative effects and the negative downsides. That’s why I ask the question of why the world is now twisted. Why was something good now seen as something bad?
