Was I a member of society? No

I've done a lot of work since then

Cause nowadays I wake up in the morning

Got a new routine, slow but its forming

Start the day off with a prayer so I can stay aware

That who I am is not depicted by my clothes or my hair

Step into the bathroom, brush my teeth and wash the mask away

So I can deal with the stresses of today

In an honest authentic way

It's not about my faults or my success

Its about what I learn and how I progress

Can I own my selfishness?

And be happy practicing selflessness?

Caught in this thing called ego

Its got me convinced that I'm the dopest amigo

But we know that's my insecurities come to get the best of me

So I'm gonna stick with the routine and the recipe

And with that I'm left humble

Reaching out for help

Cause I respect myself

No longer a shell laying dormant on the shelf

Cause I mistook guilt for shame

I'm worthless became my favorite saying

Manipulation became a mastered game

And Sam Mackey had no meaning to her name

It's too easy to admit my wrongs

I feel uncomfortable when I say I am strong

It's a work in progress

I'm an addict with a bad habit that I can confess

But here's the true test

I'm proud to say I am openly gay

And I am worth a good life today

I am a survivor, came from the concrete

Now I stand tall with shoes on my feet

I finally got food to eat and a roof over my head

I great full for those and extra great full or a bed

Not too proud to let a tear shed

And I can sit in a chair and finally feel content

In my own body and skin

Life is no longer a game I feel I need to win

I'm safe now no need to run

Don't have to prove anything to anyone

I'm living the simple life just doing what I love

Writing music so I can rise above

Working on the education, yeah I like that

Cause knowledge is power and you know that's a fact
