I was going to the fair

To the fair of Balnafanan

When I met a windsome man

He was as fair as the Annan

I asked him where he lived

As we walked our road together

By the bonny mountainside

He replied, "amongst the heather"

I will build my love a bower

By yon clear crystal fountain

And on it I will plant

All the flowers of the mountain

I'll walk the mountainside

And the dark glens so early

And I'll bring back the spoils

To the one I love so dearly
