[Verse 1]

Old country town years past

In my auntie's Outback shithouse

Reading laminated comics

That she kept nailed to the wooden door

Can hear the chooks sing their sad song

Kept short in staccato, but I know it

Goes along the lines of saying

I shit eggs every day and I'm tired

There's a farm dog humping his toys

So full of energy is him

Without the room to run around

There's only so much space to buy of stolen land

[Verse 2]

Go inside for a cup of tea

Stay in the spare room

Hear my uncle either swear or slow clap

Watching the latest footy match

On the back porch with a dart

Pinched between his fingers

As the paper burns red like the sky

And then turns black again

With the comfort of a futon

I raid cupboards for auntie's DVDs

Stay awake, look at the ceiling paint

And think of human fragility

So easily entertained by the recycled thoughts of other minds

Kinda like how I sat there reading comics on a dunny last night
