Little Denise, when you grow up, what you want to be?

Tell me what pinnacles that you want to reach

Or maybe a place in the world you want to see

I know you don't have much of an opportunity to dream

Cause it intervene with your reality

Most people ain't seen what you had to see

Or had to be somebody else compared to who they'd rather be

Broken home put together with scotch tape

Put together then broke apart every single day

Same streets you play

Same streets you try to stay

Cause back home it really can go either way

Pops and moms whole life inside a bottle

Pops a rape mom every night she holler

Hoping that she survive, what would you do without her

Then you really gotta go to school like it's not a problem

Extreme poverty

Going back home wondering if you about to eat

Try to make a sandwich

Got bread without the meat

Life on a loop and every day it's on repeat

When you go to sleep you'll think it'll stop

But when you wake up you'll see that it's not

It's only so much you can keep from the heart

Until you break down all the pieces apart

When you're feeling down low, it'll break you down, down, down, down

Feeling alone

Feeling alone

Feeling alone, alone

Little Denise, when you grow up what you wanna be

I remember you told me you want to teacher

But then again I understand how life can be

Everything you could want is right in ya reach

But it seems it's getting further the more that you leap

And you feel you getting hungry the more that you eat

So the problem underwater you know that it's deep

How would you know your momma would die

A couple years later after that your father would die

A couple years later after that your brother would die

A couple years later then your older brother would die

Your family gone, you'll sit alone and cry

I can't help but think that you ever been wondering why

I can't help but think that you ever been questioning God

Looking up to the sky and constantly asking how

When you're feeling down low, it'll break you down, down, down, down

Feeling alone

Feeling alone

Feeling alone, alone

Little Denise

When you grow up who you wanna be

Anything is possible as long as you believe

But everything you believe ain't really what it seem

20 year relationship tell me how could he leave

And he wouldn't tell the truth if you beg and plead

Then you fell to your knees filled with grief

Try to turn to the bottle to feel relief

You understand it's temporary

But everything got dark in the house and then got scary

Sometime who you married ain't really the person you married

Sometime who you pick up in this life ain't worth it to carry

It's only worth it to kill it

It's only worth it to bury

You see the tree from the fruit not the branches because it vary

You eat the fruit of the spirit not because you is vegetarian

It's spirit everywhere and I see that you been unaware of em

And they got a hold of you and now you been scared of the dark

Closed in the house and you ain't got a spark

Feet stuck on earth but feel like you on Mars

Try to take your life and that just broke my heart

Going through life trying to search for an answer

A lot of your shoulders and then some

Even though it might seem random

God always got a plan for you

When you're feeling down low, it'll break you down, down, down, down

Feeling alone

Feeling alone

Feeling alone

Alone
