[Speaker]

Very eclectic man, great musician

He’s got this Gospeldelic soul

[Speaker]

Think of the word Gospeldelic, you only think of one person: Raphael Saadiq

[Raphael Saadiq]

I’m always trying to be the best that I can

But I don’t understand, I’m just doing what I can

[Speaker]

The life of Raphael Saadiq has been one of quiet struggle

As the product of a large family with roots in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Chicago

Saadiq would be the only child born in Oakland

Where an unfortunate string of mishaps would eventually take the lives of three brothers and a sister

[Raphael]

Your life, and my life, is not so predictable

Me and you gotta know which way we wanna go

My life has been an up and down struggle

But now today, I know which way I gotta go

Go…go…I’m just doing what I can, yeah

I’m just doing what I can

I’m just doing what I can

Ooh, I’m just doing…I’m just doing what I can

(Doing it, doing it, doing it, doing it)

I’m just doing what I can

I’m just doing what I can

(Doing it, doing it, doing it, doing it)

I’m just doing it, oh why why

I’m just doing what I can

(Doing it, doing it, doing it, doing it)

I’m just doing what I can

I’m just doing what I can

(Doing it, doing it, doing it, doing it)

I’m just doing…oh why why, oh why why

I’m just doing what I can

(Doing it, doing it, doing it, doing it)

Ooh, I’m just doing what I can

I’m just doing it

I’m just doing what I can

(Doing it, doing it, doing it, doing it)

Why why

[Speaker]

Raphael’s an ancient future brother

Unconventional, doing it his way

And doing it well

Gospeldelic…
