The father left the mom and the son and all he left behind/taught his son was fear (the pissed pants) and anger(directed at the father).
The man in the relationship is cheating and if you are asleep at night at least it means he isn’t there to hurt you.
You can’t build your confidence if you are constantly being beat down by someone either physically or verbally.
Not knowing your child’s age is likely reference to the father’s neglect and disinterest in P.O.S.’s development.
His father tells his mother to sleep good, because he usually leaves her at night, so he puts on his fake fallen angel’s wings to fly away his home, and he is out for “good” because that means as the explanation above marks, that he can’t beat his wife.
The final “fuck you” to the father.
Minneapolis is P.O.S.’s hometown.
His mother got duct tape, which is known to fix things that are broken by sticking the tape on them. Metaphorically, this means that his mother will do anything for her son to be fine and their love will be protected and safe.
He sees his mother being beaten by a man who he sees as the devil (heaven’s fallen angel).
Abused family members will often console their young ones saying “it will be alright” even with tears streaming down their faces.
The dad gets drunk and finds another woman. Dad cheats on mom and finally, she catches the two. Mom left.
The baby and has his mother and the duct tape refers to him fixing himself up. Building himself back up psychologically and physically each time he or his mother is abused.
This sets the scene as well as gives the theme of the song. The cat on it’s last life is the mother who has all but given up hope of a better life free of the man she is with.
The man that the mother in the story first fell in love with is no longer inside the father of the story. All that is left is his bad qualities and his addictions (his “jones”).
Referring to how mothers will often take abuse from a spouse etc. in order to protect the child from being abused.
He wants to get rid of this man but he can’t. The angel is referring to the man (the fallen angel from earlier).
P.O.S. is referring to this man as a father rather than a dad because kids use dad as a term of endearment so the artist is saying that this person was a father (biologically) but never loved him like a “dad” would.
