Again, this to me is playing on the idea of two people viewing their grand conclusion, and realizing it needs to be revoked or undone. And this hurts one of them
Chris Barretto wrote the original lyrics to “Racecar” after getting caught cheating on his girlfriend, and the ending of the song was basically, lyrically, him begging for her back. Then they kicked Chris out and had bad blood with him for a few years (which they obviously patched up by now) and apparently Spencer rewrote at least the last part of the song (“I see light in your eyes”) with the intention of showing devotion to someone, to kinda rub some salt in Chris' wounds.
I view this as a separation of two beings, be it parents divorcing or lovers separating, and someone is suffering from those consequences. Partition is literally “the action or state of dividing into parts” so I see this as a schism of souls that is affecting someone.
Discretion means “the quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offense or revealing private information” as well as “the freedom to decide what should be done in a particular situation”.
Both of these can be seen as potential reasons for this person to feel incomplete, as they cast the sail and spin the fate of their unfortunate circumstance with this ‘other soul’ present in the lyrics.
