[Verse 1]

Out on the porch, with a spoon and a fork

Waiting awfully quiet, moon shining bright

As the clouds rolling in, I get my rolling pin

And the rain starts to come in, I turn on the oven

This feat may be fatal, but I brought my ladle

For a crispy snack tonight

You call me stupid, but I still will do it

I’m gonna eat jolts of light

[Verse 2]

Use the rain as a broth, 'cause it’s all that I got

Use the hail as a crouton, I lack any fruit on me

Though I may know, we could harness the snow

As a sauce or a side, the choices are mine

It’s nature’s dish

Not steak or fish

But something straight from the source

A tasty treat

Almost complete

All I need now is the main course

[Chorus]

Guess what I’m doing tonight

I’ve got a brand new dish to try

And it just might taste fine

Smoked or toasted or deep fried

Defy the culinary laws

This meal comes from the sky

I am eating lightning

And it just might taste alright

[Verse 3]

Watch the clouds

The thunder loudens in my ear

Waiting now

I don’t ask how, I know it’s almost here

Holding a bowl

There’s a thought in my soul

Might I be a fool

No, I never went to school

I don’t know, I don’t know

Oh oh no

[Verse 4]

I think tonight

I might miss out on lightning

It all seems unlikely

I just set my sights here

A little too far

For a meal from the stars

I head back inside

(But then, but then)

[Verse 5]

A bright shiny bolt

Strikes inside of my bowl

My mission here is done

Now dinner is served

With a taste of the earth

I finally touched the sun

[Chorus]

Guess what I’m doing tonight

I’ve got a brand new dish to try

And it just might taste fine

Smoked or toasted or deep fried

Defied the culinary laws

And now I can finally say

[Outro]

I am eating lightning

And it doesn’t really taste that great
