Bright lights and knife fights

Motels and cops and hurricanes

Jenny always had a story

It never seemed to stay the same

California 1998

Arcata was all meth and weed and guys with guns

Caught a ride with a hells angel

Outside King City on the 101

Made it back to North Dakota

Still heard the ocean when you closed your eyes

When the lights go out in Minot

There's nothing left up in the empty sky

Just echoes of another time

Just passing planes and satellites

I wish I knew you were alright

Late nights and dead еnd jobs

And cigarettes and talking on the firе escape

Jenny waited tables

And I was always still up anyway

The small town kids who grew up strange

All understand that same kind of sharp lonely ache

If you get it then you get it

If you don't this isn't really for you anyway

We're just coming from a different place

And neither one of us can change

I just hope you maybe are okay

There's a hope in dashing white lines

There's a sound in the wind

I know you hate it when I miss you

I won't do it again

I remember how the sun felt

The wild look on your face

I heard you went back to the west coast

And got destroyed by the waves
