Imaginary Friends - Intellectual

Selina Kyle for the longest time has been known as being Batman’s love interest and especially known for her complex love-hate relationship with him. Over time Catwoman’s character has evolved to being portrayed as an antiheroine, often found doing the wrong things with good intentions.

With the ancient proverb that a cat has nine lives, OuterPlan states that he would rather have imaginary friends because they never leave unless he wants them to. Comparing them to characters in a game in which when the game ends there is always an extra life.

“4. I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. 5. And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.” Matthew 27: 4-5 (KJV)

Here OuterPlan states that he would rather have not have friends at all and expect nothing than to have friends like Judas who would betray him and leave him “hanging”.

“6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.” Genesis 3 (NIV)

“And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.” Acts 27:35 (KJV)

Here OuterPlan begins a thread of references from DC Comics fictional superhero, Batman.

OuterPlan also refers back to the first line. In this context Bats are synonymous with Lucifer when he says they only play with him when the Sun has set due to their nocturnal nature, meaning that Lucifer only comes in his darkest and loneliest hours.

Continuing his theme of Batman references and giving his listeners a glimpse of his other imaginary friends, OuterPlan introduces characters like Thomas Elliot who is known as Hush. Hush became brilliant surgeon and went on to plan an elaborate revenge scheme on Batman.

Next is Harvey Dent who was a close ally to Batman. Harvey Dent was later scared by Carmine Falcone who threw acid in Dent’s face. The wounds fractured Dent’s psyche, and he was reborn as Two-Face.

The Scarecrow is an overtly obsessive and maniacal ex-professor of psychology. He uses an array of narcotics and psychological tactics to exploit the fears and phobias of his rivals.

OuterPlan compares most of todays Christians as Harvey Dents. Himself included.

Another one of OuterPlan’s imaginary friends drawing inspiration for his fascination with mythical creatures and Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses. He speaks about Medusa, a Gorgon, often portrayed as winged human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair. Anyone who would gaze upon her face would then be turned to stone.

“Fee! Fie! Foe! Fum!
I smell the blood of an Englishman.
Be he ‘live, or be he dead,
I’ll grind his bones to make my bread.”

Continuing with Biblical references OuterPlan brings in Goliath as another imaginary friend of his, completely annihilating David.

Also linking this to the previous lines where he and his imaginary friends only break the bread that they make.

OuterPlan continues the theme of having no trust in the people that have betrayed him. Comparing them to cannibals to show just how atrocious they are.

OuterPlan introduces a new imaginary friend, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. A character created by Thomas Harris in a series of suspense novels. Dr. Lecter is a forensic psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer.

Dr. Lecter has an acute antipathy toward rude people, who due to his abomination become his gourmet meals.

OuterPlan plays around with words that Dr. Lecter said in Hannibal (2001). Taking inspiration from the quotes below:

“Now you’re being rude, and I hate rude people.”

“Paul, I told you, if you’re going to be rude to our guests you’ll have to sit at the kiddie table.”

The Joker is a fictional super-villain whose first appearance was in the debut issue of the comic book Batman (April 25, 1940).

OuterPlan Jokingly mentions throughout most of the song that he and Lucifer are friends as a way of saying that as a Christian he acknowledges that are moments where his Faith wavers and he feels as though God has abandoned him and so in those moments Lucifer and his imaginary friends become his allies.

But than he always remembers that it is said in scripture, “submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 (KJV)
