Tonight to Kevin I confided

My catholic guilt a symphony

How every stone along this path

Was meant for me

That there's a sickness I must suffer

A shard of stained glass at my throat

I didn't kill God like I promised

Or like I hoped

Yet the scar remains

At the answer's grave

And I peeked inside the coffin found a mirror

There was hell inside

Everything that I

Made disappear

Have you ever met your demons

Have you ever learned their names

Have you let them have your body

Wear your face

Have you stepped into those waters

Where the ground starts to give way

It's not drowning if you're sinking

And live that way

Yet the scar remains

At the answer's grave

And I peeked inside the coffin found a mirror

There was hell inside

Everything that I

Made disappear

If we aren't our only masters

Then cruelty is divine

Made humbled by misfortune

And by design

So I know now I owe nothing

But I still have want to be

Something more than just my failures

And maladies

So does God reside

In our open eyes

Or are we dreaming staring straight into a mirror

We are left alone

In our skin and bones

And mortal fear

But we're happy here

But we're happy here

But we're happy here
