[Verse 1]
Yeah, holding back
Yeah, I've always been good at that, unattached (Yeah)
Waiting for what's coming next, things I know I should address
I feel more together when I am a mess (Whoa)
Got some moments that just came and went
Made amends with you, then you overstepped
That's a line you never shoulda crossed, you got no respect
Stop with all the threats
Like the more I get to know you, I just know you less (Yeah)
'Nother city I don't know well
Feeling too much like my old self
Backsliding, backsliding
Got me in the sad feels, got me at a standstill
Too much time alone is when it gets real (Ah)
Future doesn't pop up, then the past will
Upside, that's a rare view
Now I'm going downhill (Yeah)
Don't know who I'm close with
Going through the motions
Don't know who to trust when I (Yeah)
[Pre-Chorus]
I lie to myself and I, I can't handle it
Why do I waste so much time on things that I can't fix?
All these things I hold inside I just can't forget
Thought that I could let this go
[Chorus]
But I ain't know that it would be like this, yeah
Like this (Like this)
I ain't know that it would be like this
Yeah, like this
I ain't know that it would be like this
[Verse 2]
Yeah, maybe I'm impossible to be with
I know that you got a thousand reasons
You probably wanna leave, but don't know how, yeah
I don't hear a thing when you yell
Guess you like to hear your own voice, yeah
Got me standing here with no choice
I see they tryna guess, they got me all wrong
Look, I'm doing my best to try to stay calm
But I can't deal (Can't deal)
Feeling too much like my old self
Backsliding, backsliding
I just let the phone ring
We ain't even close, please
Throwing out opinions from the nosebleeds (Ayy, yeah)
Lot of issues that you don't see
Texts that I just won't read
Play it off, it cuts deep though
When I don't know who I'm close with
Going through the motions
Don't know who to trust when I (Yeah)
[Pre-Chorus]
I lie to myself and I, I can't handle it
Why do I waste so much time on things that I can't fix? (Yeah)
All these things I hold inside I just can't forget (Nah)
Thought that I could let this go (Yeah)
[Chorus]
But I ain't know that it would be like this, yeah (Woo, yeah)
Like this (Ayy)
I ain't know that it would be like this
(I ain't know that it would be like this, woo)
Yeah, like this (Like this)
I ain't know that it would be like this (Like this), yeah (Yeah)
Like this (Like this)
I ain't know that it would be like this
Yeah, like this (Like this)
I ain't know that it would be like this
Sometimes people can be overwhelmed by their thoughts when they’re alone. Nate mentions this on Hate Myself, saying:
“Late nights get the best of me, they know how to get to me”
There is a Tiktok trend right now, that will probably be lost in time to future readers, but I feel like does a good job sumerising this line. the audio for it is, “ Hey Honey…. There’s no chaos and its very unsettling.” Which just incapsulates this line so well. When you grow up in chaos, ie a mess, it becomes your normal. When it’s not there anymore, and you’ve moved past it, it feels like somethings wrong, like it’s not natural. Your normal, or your “together” has been chaotic so when there’s no problems it causes you anxiety because you think something must be coming. At least when there is chaos or things are messy you aren’t surprised and you can kinda go through the motions you always have to get through it.
“Nosebleeds” are seats really high up or very far away from the stage. They are usually cheap last minute offerings. He’s talking about how people who are so displaced from the situation still want to tell you their opinions, but don’t really see what’s going on. So ultimately their voices are irrelevant.
in one reaction ( see here:
) the reactor says the nosebleeds could symbolise people on social media who are detached from the real life situation but still have things to say and I feel like that is a real good descriptionI feel like this line hits hard for my peeps with depression, although I don’t really know the flip side of that so maybe it resonates with everyone at times. When I’m depressed though, I’m either always worrying about what the future holds, or how I am ever going to be able to achieve all of the things I want out of life. And on the otherside when I’m not worrying about that demons from the past fill my mind. Whether that’s overthinking about something I said to someone sophomore year of highschool, (half a decade or so ago), or overanalyzing all the shit that happened before that and thinking about it.
