I guess the question on my mind is

Who am I supposed to be?

Who stands behind the mask

That you're telling me is me?

I recognise the voice

I'm familiar with the features

But did I have a choice to become one of the creatures

On this green earth?

Still searching for my home turn

Why do I have a heart if all I really am is dirt?

They say that words can't touch

But in reality they hurt

Especially the ones that I write

They say the highlight

Is living for the high life

But I'm searching for the Source

Like five mics

Still living in the twilight

The limelight's crepuscular

Rhyme pattern muscular

Ready to lift a soul

Stick my neck out like jugulars

Is the inner man Caligula?

Living out an acted role of human cinema?

Where the ruler reigns supreme

Guess the only question is

Is it you, or is it me?

Man at times like these

I think about my life

Man's responsibilities

I think about my wife

Lord, I pray I never leave her

Pray I never let her down

Becoming a deceiver

When the enemy taunts

I laugh in his face

But seeing heroes fall from their heights

End up in disgrace

I realise, "There go I, except for your grace"

Refusing ever to settle for commonplace

I know your call on my life

I'm finishing the race

And one day I'll stand before you

Peering in your face

See the beauty that I longer for

The object of my faith

But how long until that day comes?

Surviving off these bread crumbs

To feasting in your kingdom?

Am I there or do I succumb

To the tantalising, fantasising

Lust of the eyes

Compromising my identity?

Like walking through the trenches

Searching for serenity

Be my canopy!

Be my canopy

When the sky's falling down

Be my canopy
