How dare I attempt to improve upon silence?

It’s not a new notion, still a potent piece of guidance

Interruptions tantamount to acts of violence

Blunt force trauma to the peace and quiet

A born killer, that’s just how I’m wired

First 25 of life I never let a pause pass me by

Without a sentence inserted. Still learning

When to keep my mouth shut and let somebody else take a turn

But some silences lie intеrnal

An existential type pokеd at in notes apps and journals

A void to fill at will or through osmosis

Differing approaches make you whole or leave you hopeless

The blank canvas demands answers

The world will gladly wield the brush unless an interruption comes

To set the terms on how the silence is addressed

To question in the quiet how to be a human best

It’s an affront in many ways to grab a microphone

To add to silence when it might be better left alone

It’s a risk, even if the words are worthwhile

Anyone can speak, and anyone can turn the dial

But that wild-eyed silence in the soul?

It’s imperative to interrupt, interrogate in full

To shape it how you see fit and keep control

Otherwise you’ll never know
