I asked for its name

And it said unto me

“You know my name

You've always known.”

Then any sense of my power

Dissolved into its awful form

It travels in reflections

A vision of despair

Measureless sorrow

I stood in its shadow

As the unsound ate reason

Terror subdued me

And it wallowed

A simple look

Crippled me with grief

And I knew

This was the monument

That causes our pain

The pain of living

The monument

That causes our pain

Skies so dark

And the rain

It never ends

Pooling sadness

Faded daylight in Payne’s grey

This vision of misery grew

The way it split the sky

Its peak pierced my chest

My breath tapered off

Like the unsympathetic apex

The crushing presence of its aura

Draws color from the world around

Desires ebb, I fall, I cannot move

A simple look

Crippled me with grief

And I knew

This was the monument

That causes our pain

The pain of living

The monument

That causes our pain
