Simple Math

The basic four functions of math keep everything in balance. Subtraction balances addition

Multiplication balances division

It’s difficult to articulate those functions any more simply

At face value, they appear to be polar opposites

Some of them give and some of them take away

Without any one of them, the others lose purpose

The entire basis of science and practical functionality lay entirely on the balance each individual function accords the others

Some find math to be difficult and I’m no exception

It exists in everything everyone does on a daily basis

It is essential and necessary

Yet it is placed by the wayside by a great many, myself included

I never appreciated these simple facts until I met her

I wish it were as simple as saying that we balance each other out. That she’s the addition to my subtraction. It’s not

Instead, I find myself estimating the inches between those freckles; Calculating the distance between her and I and solving for the most effective means of bridging it

No calculator can quantify her effect on me

There exist no equations to explain why we gel

Poetry covers that. Music covers that

However, it’s the simple mathematics that quantify the idiosyncrasies

The addition of her into my life multiplies happiness, subtracts doubt, and divides contentment into easily digestible segments

Now, I see the importance of it all

I’m exponentially excited by the idea

Carry over the numbers and it adds up to something better
