Regain control

I wasn’t sat on a cloud

Singing out loud

Or set to sail on a magic sea

I was handed down

This chain as a crown

These cumbersome shackles of duty

I was handed a mask

But was afraid to ask

Who should see what’s behind it

Put on a brave face

And keep up your pace

If you fall let nobody find it

But my dreams were alive

And they would survive

The excess of gravity

They would stumble along

In a tune of a song

Aiming to reach a higher key

These are my two cents

These ingredients

A blend of counter-forces

A smidgen of gold

In these stories told

Truths of different sources

The weight of obligation

Can crush a little soul

And it takes half a lifetime

To rebuild and make it whole

The weight of expectation

Comes with a ponderous role

And it takes half a lifetime

To regain a little control

I wasn’t sat on a cloud

Singing out loud

Or set to sail on a magic sea
