It’s vivid and brilliant

I’m scared it’ll fade

The memories surface

Like frogs in the rain

I trip on the street

So I lay in the grass

I close my eyes

I’m scared it’ll pass

I feel like

I’ll open my eyes

And wake up in your bed

I’ll go to your kitchen

And tap on your head

You’ll swat at my hand

And you’ll pass me a coffee

She’s sleeping on the couch

So we try to walk softly

I sit on the floor

While you go to wake her up

And the feeling I’m feeling

Is filled up with love

She grumbles and tells you

To leave her alone

But she pats my face

And I feel likе I’m home

Ahe finally sits up

Snd I sit at her feet

You sit down nеxt to her

My chin on your knee

I capture the moment

As clear as I can

You see it in my face

And you reach for my hand

You kiss my knuckles

She links our fingers

There’s talk about breakfast

The softness lingers

You kiss my forehead

She wants to act tough

But I see in her eyes

The feeling is love

But I open my eyes

I’m not at your place

By the time it was over

I was years out of state

So I walk back home

With grass in my eye

You didn’t call to say the news

And I still wonder why
