Let me take it back to back when I was a baby

Born on the cusp of 1980

To a New York Sicilian lady

And a repo man from L.A. but mom mostly raised me

Dad was outspoken and a bit crazy

Never played the victim, never needed saving

Until he needed saving blackout rage

From the beast that was released from the booze when he drank

Self aware enough he finally quit drinking

And that’s what saved him, at least until he turned 50

He had a bunch of back surgeries and pills are tasty

They smell even better when you take them nasally

November 2001 the party came to an end

I stopped by for a visit, found him in the bathroom dead

My only regret I didn’t spend more time with pops

Before we both were too fucked up to enjoy the talks

VERSE 2

On verse two they said to make it more about you

And all the dumb shit you used to do and what you went through

But honestly, the more I reminisce

The more I’m surprised I’m still alive, now why is this?

From chasing wagons with crazy baggage

A brazen habit when you never learned how to train your dragon

I used to shoot dope, i still smoke weed

I never liked drinking alcohol but that’s just me

It turns out the vessel is an addict from birth

When an unfulfilled high becomes unquenchable thirst

It was never in the cards, becoming a parent

But when shit changes you reshuffle the narrative

I’m all good now, well better than I was

Good enough to cruise through this last section of dust

And pass on some knowledge and a list of what not to do

But mostly glad to still be here for you, and you, and you…
