Gentle

I’m painting pictures from a greyscale palette

I’m not like this I’m just doing this out of habit

I tried to talk today but it came out as a whisper

If I raise my voice I lose it and I don’t know how to fix her

I don’t know how I got here

I don’t know how I get back

I don’t know how to give you directions

When I can’t trust the footprints in my tracks

You’re asking me to let go, let me show you, some of what I’m feeling

You’re telling me you don’t know, couldn’t guess so you can’t tell what you’re seeing

And I’m kneeling on the ground of our conversations

Stacking up the bricks for a safe foundation

So if you see me, please be gentle

Believe me, and please be gentle

I tried to call today but I couldn’t get through

Maybe I’m no longer someone you want to talk to

But I know you’ve seen something in me I didn’t

And I wish I could have read the signs I wish I could’ve listened

I don’t know how I got here

I don’t know how I get back

I don’t know how to give you directions

When I can’t trust the footprints in my tracks

You’re asking me to let go, let me show you, some of what I’m feeling

You’re telling me you don’t know, couldn’t guess so you can’t tell what you’re seeing

And I’m kneeling on the ground of our conversations

Stacking up the bricks for a safe foundation

So if you see me, please be gentle

Believe me and please be gentle
