[Narrator, spoken]

Back in Ellomin, Sariah has just finished addressing the remainder of Martin’s wounds. About to close her door, she sees Martin sit down on her front steps, holding a broken model train. He is clearly upset

[Sariah, spoken]

It’s just a model train, Martin, a small price to pay for your life

[Verse 1, Martin]

It wasn’t just a model train

It was a gift from a friend

Now it’s just a broken thing

And I won’t see him again

The Poet shattered my lute

It was a gift from my Mother

Now it’s just a broken thing

I look around and I wonder

[Verse 2, Martin]

Am I just collecting things to lose?

Are the broken things breaking me too?

I just wanted to give joy, now I’m out here taking lives

I’m preparеd to sacrifice, singing Reuben’s lullaby, but I

Thought lifе would be different

Didn’t think I would lose so much

It used to be simple

Or maybe it never was

[Verse 3, Martin]

My Mother’s instrument’s broken, I’m gonna cry ‘cause I mean it

Somehow, I've got Father’s dagger despite not getting to meet him

Maybe it’s life trying to tell me I need more violence than music

If killing helps save a brother, I’ve got no choice but to do it

[Chorus, Martin]

But I-

I-I just wanted to sing, now I’m a broken thing

I-I just wanted to sing, now I’m a broken thing

[Sariah, spoken]

Oh, Martin

[Verse 4, Sariah]

You’re not a broken thing

So cast away that thought

You’re a person with a heart

Who’s had to deal with too much loss

Once gone, our spirits exist

If by those left behind we’re still missed

You keep your friend in your mind

In some way, that keeps him alive

[Verse 5, Sariah]

I was five when my parents left on their final travel

I won’t lie, it took my sorrow years to unravel

But I recall, my Mother smelt of berries

And my Father’s laugh could fill entire halls

They’re not gone

I still have ‘em

Like how you carry your own Father in your anthem

And your Mother in your kindness

Twice now, you’ve saved my Brother’s life

So I, for one, am glad you found your Father’s knife

[Verse 6, Sariah]

But your music is important

You still have joy to spread

I can’t replace your lute

But take my old guitar instead

I worry for my Brother

Every single time he’s gone

But last time, I found comfort in your “Send Off Song”

[Sariah, Spoken]

So here, take it. It’s from when I was younger, so the size should be just right
