A lot of people ask me

"Why did you start skating" and "How did you get into skating"

So... I wrote a little short story

About exactly how I did that

See I was 15 years old when I got my first skateboard

My wifey just dumped me, you know I'm feeling hella bored

Got so much spare time, feeling like time square

Like broadway I'm acting up like "why should I care?"

But hey fuck it, this board brings the ruckus

Shame my first board was something that could be fucked with

It breaks on the second day, but hey I learned to ollie first

Not before I hit the deck, my confidence dispersed

Bought a complete

In hopes that it would complete

The empty hole in my soul that my ex did leave

Watching hop sag his pants I duplicated

I didn't start saggin' but instead I picked up skating

James said "dope idea and keep on goin'

Keep your mind off that ho and keep on growin'"

And so I head out

Head high

Time for another try

Oh yeah this rush got me skating till I fucking die

And away I rolled, just a rebel to the world with no place to go

I used to skate in the garage, just to get away from marge

And used the poles for support to learn the tricks that were hard

Ollie over cracks, while other kids are doing crack

And while the kids are dealing dope I'm tryna get these tricks dope but nope

Security tells no skating here

I said "nah its okay I'll be just over there"

The empty spot with no cars look the corner that's far

But no compromise, and so he sends me on my way

I gotta skate street now but that's okay

Because I meet this cool kid who was younger than I

But man on a board can this kid fly, he says

"Damn Reg how you get them ollie's so high"

I reply...

You gotta get the timing right

When you hear that pop sound jump with all your might

And so he teaches me to kick flip

And of course I bust my lip

Kickflip's now number 99 on my problems list

I went from busting my lip to feeling I was the shit

Then saw Deli Status vids realised I wasn't shit

Chaz Ortiz's steeze pleased me, but even they bailed

Knew it couldn't be easy if even they failed

But who said what's worth it came perfect?

A craft or skill without 15% concentrated power of will, will never be ill

I planned to be ailing, wailing, first credit card the definition of failing

Funny how in skate world the card is just as evil

Funny how a fake girl had the hearts of all my people

Plastic, barbie, right where her heart be

Her sticks and stones broke my bones but nothing touched these hard wheels
