The vocal sample you hear at the end of this line of someone saying “ciphers” (also heard at the very beginning of the track) is from the movie A Beautiful Mind, based on the life of American mathematician John Nash.
This wouldn’t be the first time I’ve compared myself to a historical figure portrayed in a movie by Russell Crowe; numerous times I’ve called myself “hip-hop’s Cinderella Man” or James Braddock after Russell Crowe’s character in the 2005 film Cinderella Man.
This is a reference to the music video for the 1998 Korn song entitled “Freak on a Leash.” In the video, which features a mixture of animation scenes and live action shots, an animated pistol fires a bullet that breaks out of the animation world by emerging from an illustrated Korn poster and then “comes to life” in the live action world.
This is in reference to the Infiniti Q45, a full-size luxury car sold by Nissan’s Infiniti marque from 1989 until 2006.
The way that I swap “Infiniti” and “Q45” and pronounce “Infiniti” like “Infinite” and the inclusion of the word “push” in the beginning of the line are direct homages to the Nas lyric, “If I ruled the world and everything in it / Sky’s the limit, I’d push a Q45 Infinite,” from Nas’s “If I Ruled The World.” This wouldn’t be the first time I’ve referenced Nas or that song; I reference “If I Ruled The World,” along with five other Nas songs, in my song “Michelle” (/kinetics-michelle-official-lyrics), where I crown Nas the king of hip-hop.
The nutmeg line operates on three levels: 1) a literal level (it means what it sounds like it means), 2) a pun that uses a play on words between “nutmeg” and “nutting” on a girl named “meg,” and 3) another pun that plays with the term “nutmeg” in soccer, which is when you kick the ball through an opponent’s legs.
