While some use BLM as a way to score likes on social media, Black people are the daily victim of racism. In other words, some only see it as a social media thing, while others live with racism in their daily lives.
In a post on social media, you can use hashtags to help your post get more reach. So, you can use several of them in a post to spread your message of anti-racism. This simultaneously points to the performative nature of a big part of that online activism, as such hashtags are hijacked by people thinking about their popularity.
On the other hand, this line also points to how little actually changes despite the popularity of activism online. New hashtags keep emerging for the same issues. It’s all hashtag hashtag hashtag, but nothing really changes.

This refers to how a lot of non-Black people adopt parts of culture that originated with Black people, while simultaneously sustaining the system of oppression Black people suffer from.
Filip Dewinter is a Belgian Member of Parliament for Vlaams Belang, the Flemish far-right party, which in the past as Vlaams Blok got convicted for racism.
The audio fragment used at the beginning of this song is how Dewinter literally made this statement on June 14, 2018 in the Chamber. It translates to:
In 13 years, in 13 years, 70% of the population of Antwerp will be non-Belgians. And in two generations the mayor of Antwerp will be a Moroccan, a Turk or a n*gger.
In doing so, he was referring to a statement made by Open VLD politician Herman De Croo:
Today, 70 percent of Antwerp’s children under the age of 5 are no longer Belgian. If they come of age within 13 years, that means that 70 percent of the Antwerp voters will no longer be Belgian. Bye bye Mr. De Wever! I bet that the mayor of Antwerp will be Turkish, Moroccan or Black within two generations.
Dewinter, who presents immigration as a huge problem, used it to “warn” the parliament for what he deems a danger. Along with it, he used the Dutch equivalent of the n-word, an anti-black racist slur, in his paraphrasing of De Croo. This statement resulted in commotion.
In June 2020, millions of people posted black squares on Instagram (and other social media platforms) for #blackouttuesday, an initiative that was meant as a day in solidarity with the BLM movement in the wake of the killing of George Floyd.
