Well I guess I should be flattered

All her guns now trained on me

As if any of us mattered

Here beneath her balcony

And I guess I should be nervous

But I’ve been this way before

It’s a calling, not a service

To be shot down in her war

But this guessing leaves me battered between the front line and the rear

My uniform all tattered

On her razor wire here

So reacquaint my silence

With the echo of her voice

And realize defiance

Was never any choice

And reaffirm my sentence

And reaffix my name

And rearrange repentance

Just to re-avoid my shame

And readjust my posture

With a cigarette half-lit

And redefine the cost here

For daring not to quit

Well I guess I should’ve scattered when that spotlight stopped on me

But there’s a peace in standing shattered right where everyone can see

So let her loose her battle hound

Let everyone here hiss

If I’m down I’m going down

Exactly lit like this

In the ashes, in the spotlight

Let the others all be pissed

If I’m down I’m going down

Exactly lit like this
