Bethlehem

I've got a big problem

Greed

Murder

Blasphemy

Lust

I hate what I do but I do what I must

The only thing we contributed to our salvation is the sin that made it necessary

Our worship of anything other than God is idolatry, and makes Him secondary

What is your god? Search for your idols

Don't passively park in your car as it idles

I doll up my walk with the Lord as perfection

My heart, prone to wander in every direction

Out of the heart comes my lust and my pride

Blasphemy, murder, I've stolen and lied

I've mastered the method of seeking to hide

A grave painted white, I am rotting inside

Is it any wonder I barely turn my head when the dead pile up on the news?

Is it any wonder our priests preach your best life now and the people still sleep in the pews?

YOLO! Yells the youth pastor

Secretly nursing his porn addiction

I don't know! He whispers

To the wondering 13-year-old on whether or not Genesis was fiction

There's no conviction, no depiction

Of who God created us to be

And if I examine my idols, I find my idol is really me

You see, I used to see this judicial system. The Law

And it's fully there

But my deeper problem is that I'm trapped underwater and I'm rejecting a full tank of air

Jeremiah 2:13

God is angry at His people

Not for their lack of legalese

But for having committed two evils

Evil number one, they had forsaken the Fount of Life, the Father

Evil number two, they had built for themselves wells that could not hold any water

Can you imagine pouring yourself a glass of mud when right in front of you is a glacially fed, glistening brook?

Can you imagine jumping off a 4000 foot cliff with a pillowcase when a parachute was what it took?

We sin in sincerity

True to our humanity

But choosing dog food

Over Belgian waffles

Is mere insanity

Mary, did you know?

That your Son was born in a manger?

Wanna know what's even stranger?

Things

Let me explain

Bethlehem is known as the house of Bread

And guess where the Saviour laid His head

Jesus was laid in a literally glorified animal drinking trough

It's a wonder he didn't get whooping cough

But I'll get to the point before you start drooping off

Jesus said He had the Living Water

He said He was the Bread of Life

But we're consuming Kool-Aid and Krispy Kremes, completely ignoring the Christ

We spend our lives on the products that please us

But ultimate satisfaction can only come from Jesus

Anything else is just a farce, a fleshly photoshopped fakery

Like activists shutting down a Christian bakery

Back to bread, back to the beginning

Before God had even created the humans who came up with sinning

Satan was an angel

Authentic in all regards

But he idolized himself

Rather than worship the God who made the stars

The Daystar has fallen

London has fallen

Olympus has fallen

White House down

While the sin gap was spanning

We didn't need Channing

But a Saviour

To carry a cross across town

And that's what Jesus did, though they spat in His face

He endured the abuse of the whole human race

And in case you were interested

He was T-boned in the intersection

Brutally nailed to two 2 by 4s for committing no crime

The Carpenter who hand-crafted even the concept of time

He bled and died in my place, judgment exchanged for grace

And now His righteousness is mine

History doesn't repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme

Now History would be over, but His story is not over

He rose again the third day

And took His rightful place, Jehovah

Rapha, Shalom, Elohim, El Shaddai

All Power, All Honour, All Glory, Adonai

And my addictions, my facades

Are trampled in the sod

Because I asked forgiveness

Of a merciful, loving God

I'm forgiven. He is cursed

I hated Him, He loved me first

And while I wallowed in my worst

Jesus came and quenched my thirst
