Man Don’t Care - Intellectual

Giggs claims he is as hard as the Caped Crusader himself, imitating the old school Batman theme. In the track’s music video he pays homage to the comic book character with one of his very own batarangs.

His list of friends is so small that the list can be picked up using tweezers, a tool used for precision. This implies that due to the amount of snakes in the industry, there are only a small number of people who he actually trusts.

This could be a further nod to the chorus of Crazy Titch’s song “I Can C U”.

JME grew up in the streets. JME here is saying that Grime Music will never go soft and it will always be hard because most “MC’s” grew up in the street and the street life is hard.

“White” probably refers to cocaine as it is known as being old school. Giggs is saying that he dealt with “that white” cocaine.

The opening bar is a reference to “Stupid” (feat. Wiley), a 2006 grime song by Jme’s brother, Skepta:

Draw for the leng, kill an MC

Jme starts the track off by implying that the ski mask is used to conceal his face when he’s being violent or taking part in a robbery. However, there’s an anticlimax when he jokes that the real reason he uses it is because he snowboards.

Ski Mask is also the name of a 2014 EP by Swifta Beater, the producer of this track.

It is said that Adam and Eve were in a garden within the Bible, and Giggs made a mixtape called ‘Walk in the Park’ Park is a synonym of garden.

She’s smoking sensimilla, which is usually a better bred strain of weed.

He’s smoking a commonly known strain called amnesia, popular mostly in London and Birmingham.

Double entendre – Giggs is from South London (“down south”), whereas in the southern states of the US, gold grills are popular.

Some parts of South London are known for their crime rate, including Peckham (where Giggs was born), Brixton and Tulse Hill.

Giggs isn’t looking to make himself a bait target by flexing his wealth (which a gold grill would signify) and he’s quietly just doing his thing quietly getting money. It’s not an uncommon theme in the grime scene!

The first part is referencing the previous line, talking about HSBC. P’s meaning Paper’s, which is slang for money/ bills.

JME then talks about running into somebody’s house with 2 Gs, meaning two of his friends (Gangsters).

He then puts “the money in his mouth” to suffocate them, still using the term Gs but this time talking about the 2 Grand (£2000) that he is suffocating the person with.

After suffocating the person he will breeze (slang for leave). The person also needs breathe (breeze) after suffocating.

Jme is implying that he will only dig graves two foot shallow, as he is so busy that it’s not worth his time giving them a proper burial.

He follows on from the previous line in which he was describing the grotesque way in which he would murder somebody with money. A regular burial would have the body placed to rest 6 feet deep, Jme is in a hurry – perhaps evading the police for the crimes he has just committed – therefore this burial will only allow Jme the time to dig 2 foot deep.

Giggs compares himself to the competition. “Old school idiot” could mean a classic idiot, but is also used here to imply irrelevancy. By comparison, Giggs is a current and recognisable MC. Indeed his Fire in the Booth freestyles are some of the most popular on the channel. The people love Giggs!

Now that Giggs is successful, you won’t see him caught up in small “local” drama. He’s on bigger things; touring and making money from music across the country. However he says he is still a recognizable face in his local area, and you’re likely to still see him around. He hasn’t forgotten his roots.

Jme states that he will be able to defend himself with anything he has on him, going as far as using his keys as protection.

Just like the previous line, this line is also a reference to Skepta’s song “Stupid”

Jme also references his car, a BMW X6. His love for BMW has been shown previously in his featured verse on Meridian Dan’s song “German Whip”.

Reference to old school grime artist Crazy Titch who’s now serving a life sentence in prison for murder. He was massive in the Channel U days with a number of hits. Jme references the classic bar from Crazy T’s “Eyes on You” freestyle:

Giggs started off selling light drugs (cocaine), then darkened (moved on to heroin).

Expelliarmus, a disarming charm in Harry Potter, can’t stop Jme. Even if you had magic on your side, you wouldn’t be able to bring him down.

A piste is a marked ski run down a mountain used for sports such as skiing or snowboarding, thus referencing the previous line. Whereas an off-piste (backcountry skiing) is an unmarked ski run out of the ski resorts boundaries.

Jme is saying that he wants to dash an MC off course, outside the legal/ expected boundaries.

Bloodclart is a Jamaican insult. In this context it is being used to similar to “what the fuck”.

Don Gorgon is a term used to describe someone who is in charge or well respected.

In this line, Giggs is asserting his dominance in the grime game and ensuring every one knows the boss is back.

This may also be a reference to the popular and controversial Jamaican musician, Ninjaman a.k.a Don Gorgon.

This line doesn’t mean much. When Jme suggested the hook ‘Man don’t care bout all that’ to Giggs, he suggested it ‘what about “man don’t care bout all that”’ then when he recorded the hook with simply ‘man don’t care bout all that’, Giggs stopped the recording and said “No, do it with the ‘what about’ bit aswell”. And thus it was created.

There is little meaning in this line, it just makes him sound like a badman.

Michel de Nostredame was a 16th century French apothecary, who predicted and prophesied a number of phenomena. Jme is stating that Nostredame wouldn’t have been able to see him coming.

A “burner” is just another slang term for gun. As the barrel of a gun gets hot after firing it, so it would heat up like a furnace.

He’s got a margin above the rest, saying he’s one of the best. Also a reference to Dragonball Z character Majin Buu.

Giggs only wears the most luxurious footwear, the only loafers he wears are ones made by Hermès, a designer brand originating from Paris.

Giggs references Iron Man and is declaring he is hard, cold and has nerves of steel by comparing himself to the Marvel superhero.

He also plays on the name Anthony “Tony Stark”, more commonly known as Iron Man, claiming his gun will stark (possibly a pun on ‘spark’) em.

However “Stark” can also mean stiff, rigid, or incapable of movement. Giggs uses some clever word play all which reference ending up dead.

A Key Fob is a is a type of security token used to access secure networks, such as banks. They are usually worn on a key ring/ chain.

HSBC is one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organisations.

Hollowman is Giggs' nickname.

Originally intended to feature Skepta, the hook instead found its way to Giggs. In an interview with Link Up Music Jme revealed “Man don’t care ‘bout all that” is meant to tie in with slightly altered reoccurring lyrics from Blam!.

Most rappers are caught up in trying to overcomplicate their bars with “multis and their similes” but JME is as good or better even though he tends to stick to the basics.

Jme has a degree in 3D Digital Design from the University of Greenwich. Here he implies that people are often surprised by the fact that he can be well-educated and still on the grime scene. This hasn’t stopped him though.

In 2014, The Cincinnati Bengals player Giovani Bernard was viciously tackled by the Indianapolis Colts player Vontae Davis in an NFL matchup.

Filling someone’s shoes in is a term used when taking the place of someone else who did the same action. So Giggs is basically implying that he’s still hustling/rapping at a high level and no one can take over because he’s still “working”.

Giggs is aiming for the top spot and feels entitled to it. By likening this spot to a parking space he uses the analogy of having the necessary permit, although in this case the permit is likely to be his skills as an MC. See for yourself!
