Really Got It - Intellectual

I pulled this from a song I did called “Yessir I’m So Sincere,” but the original was pulled from Cedric the Entertainer’s intro on Jay Z’s “Threat.” I’m definitely a fan of pulling from artists or things that inspire you or that you want to pay homage to and flipping it and adding your own spin to it. I think it’s a cool way of showing people that you respect what they do. I’ve never had an issue with that. I know Jay has gotten a lot of flack for that, but he’s an equally great MC without the Biggie references. He can stand on his own without that.

Throughout the whole album, it’s a lot of sports references. I just think sports is a great analogy for life. You know, I grew up wanting to play basketball like most inner city kids. The skill set wasn’t there, though, so that’s the reference of the line. It was, A. Jordan was a Nike guy so you wanted to be like Mike and B. athletes can make some good money. Just the idea of playing basketball at a young age and what it could become and how fruitful it could be.

The numbers could apply to any industry, whatever your job is, there’s usually a quantitative measurement. That’s why people can relate to it, because there’s a lot of inspirational realization, like you’re knowing you’re at this point in your life, but you’re trying to get here, whatever that level is.

When Bron was in Miami, we would go down there. I went down there for Game 7 in 2012. I was there performing for Kendrick’s good kid, m.A.A.d city tour. Basically, every time I’m in Miami, I don’t go to go to the beach. We have a great time, we kick it, but to this day I’ve never seen the beach.

Jerreau, like most rappers, travels with a crew. No matter where they go or who they see they’re always flexing on them. They drive exotic cars, wear expensive clothes, and show off their lavish lifestyles.

My friends call me BankReau. It’s a play on saying the flow is money and I’m aspiring to reach a hundred million. Speak it to existence.

I’m very particular with what I say and how I say it. Even if it sounds simple, there’s a lot of multi-layers to it. That ties back into me saying “I started hooping for the Nike check.” Yeah I started playing sports at a young age, but then you realize at some point, okay, you’re not NBA bound. So that was speaking to A. that idea that when you’re a quarterback on a team, you have the option to run. So it was kind of basically saying I’ve put a lot of resources, time and effort into this music, and this is what I have to do. I have to see it through. And you can even break it down some more because it’s still multi-layered—you can apply it to anything.

You have a few drinks and it turns into her staying the night, in the morning there’s no toothbrush so you gotta eat gum for breakfast, and then you want to leave or kick her out so you make up a white lie like, “I gotta pick up my pops from the airport.” So I was acknowledging that, I know I’m not shit because of that.

Tony Stewart with the swerve: I’m out of here, and then on top of that, he actually killed someone swerving. That’s not my intention, but you gotta be really reckless if you’re killing people when driving.
