I can only be myself

Whereas you want me to be someone else

On reflection my reflection is a pitying sight

You call me vain, you call me selfish, and I think you might be right

On reflection my reflection's come to loathe itself

Whatcha wanna be when you grow older, child?

I just wanna be myself

I can only be myself

Whereas you think that is bad for my health

Yeah my objection to objections to the way that I survive

On nought but vodkas that I've got to if I want to feel alive

Yeah my objection to objections that are plaguing my mind

Is that my future is unwritten so it won't be Armageddon

If it finds me a while to find...

But I'm trying real hard Ringo, to let the little things go

But I learned long ago that I can be too hard on myself

And though I'm in the know and all should be good but no

I'm fifty foot of snow blocking of all paths to myself

And I say I'll thaw tomorrow, but I'm way too bored to borrow

An ounce of strength for my row, I'm used to abusing myself

My mind is split straight in half, one side's for smarts, one's for laughs

In the war of these too gaffs I just want to be myself

I can only be myself

Whereas you want me to stop being a scoundrel

Yeah my affection for affection come to be how I'm defined

Ripping between the fragile seam of what I covet deep inside

Yeah my affection for affection's my juvenile vice

Causing me to burn some bridges, turn some more hills into ridges

But what is life if you don't roll the dice?

So without much further ado, Lord knows what I'm s'posed to do

Hit control-Z, let's undo the conflicts I inflict on myself

Though it's nothing new, I know you always knew

I work in cycles that renew, making then breaking what I tell myself

It's hard but I have to regard the voices of two minds that fight

I'm into tearing apart myself

My mind is split straight in half, one side's for smarts, one's for laughs

In the war of these too gaffs I just want to be myself
