[Verse 1]

I was staring at the wall, mouth open, eyes wide

Recovering from a dream where I committed some sort of crime

I got up, went to work, and I stared at the page

Threw it out and took a walk, and I saw something kind of strange (Let me tell you about it)

I’ve got a problem, one I can’t seem to get through

I’m stuck in gridlock wondering what to do

[Verse 2]

I walked past a gas station that was being robbed

The two perpetrators were holding up a python

I think their names were Cal and Aron, trying hard to scare the clеrk at the front

But he just loaded a shotgun and yеlled “Boys, you better run”

They’ve got a problem, one they won’t seem to get through

I’m stuck in gridlock wondering what to do

[Verse 3]

I saw a man standing out on Clinton Street, wearing high heels and a skirt

His eyes see upside down and he’s got a bloodstain on his shirt

He refuses any shelter, any pity, food, or drink

And if you ever meet his gaze, he’ll say “quiet, I can hardly think”

He’s got a problem, one he can’t seem to get through

He’s stuck in gridlock wondering what to do

[Verse 4]

Juliet’s on 7th Avenue, she wants to change her way of life

She’s just standing on the corner twirling twin butterfly knives

She goes to synagogue now, tells me all the changes she’s been making

But there’s just one little jam, she can’t seem to give up bacon

She’s got a problem, one she can’t seem to get through

She’s stuck in gridlock wondering what to do

[Verse 5]

And on Victory Boulevard, Orpheus cries he can’t find a way

All the music he sings bores him and his life is turning gray

And in a olive green raincoat he just yells ‘til he forgets

He speeds away on his motorcycle, the engine drowns out any regret

He’s got a problem, one he can’t seem to get through

He’s stuck in gridlock wondering what to do

[Verse 6]

Somewhere on Bridge Street, Bunny Hoover’s singing hymns to you

A swarm of something ugly flies away, cause he’s wearing blue

And it goes around, tearing people down in pairs

But then it makes just one wrong turn, and it goes falling up the stairs

It’s got a problem, one it can’t seem to get through

It’s stuck in gridlock wondering what to do

[Verse 7]

And with a megaphone on Main Street, a drunk with two severed ears

Claims he’s the Second Coming so we should all learn to fear

And he gets so very angry when I point out all his flaws

And he shouts, “You’re the type of person Jesus wouldn’t like at all”

I’ve got a problem, one I think I can get through

But still i’m stuck in gridlock wondering what to do

[Verse 8]

And the Dealer Of The World prepares another round

I turn to face him, not making a sound

I say “Why’s there all this evil in the world after all?

I know you might not know the answer but someone’s got to take the fall”

He’s got quite a problem, one even he can’t get through

He’s stuck in gridlock wondering what to do

What do I do?

[Verse 9]

Now who do I want to be at this stage? The writer, the clerk, the biker?

Do I want to be another fly in the swarm, or do I want to be a fighter?

"Maybe I’m the opening act!", I think to myself while I wear out my eraser

It’s been seven minutes now and I've released no words on the paper

I’ve got a problem, one I can’t seem to get through

I’m stuck in gridlock wondering what to do

[Outro]

I’ve got a problem (He’s got a problem)

One I can’t seem to get through (Can’t seem to get through it)

I’m stuck in gridlock wondering what to do

I’ve got a problem (He’s got a problem)

One I can’t seem to get through (Can't seem to get through it)

I’m stuck in gridlock wondering what to do
