Alan Turing managed to crack Nazi Germany’s Engima machine, which was used heavily in World War Two. It is estimated that his hacking of the Engima machine shortened the War by two years, and saving millions of lives.
Alan Turing was later prosecuted by the state for being gay, and was chemically castrated, after having being hailed as a hero for the work he had done with machines and computational biology.
