[Verse 1]
Now I've watched you sitting there
But there's so much they don't know about Apple Scruffs
[Verse 2]
You've been stood around for years
Seen my smiles and touched my tears
How it's been a long, long time
And how you've been on my mind, my Apple Scruffs
[Chorus]
Apple Scruffs, Apple Scruffs
How I love you, how I love you
[Verse 3]
In the fog and in the rain
Through the pleasures and the pain
On the step outside you stand
With your flowers in your hand, my Apple Scruffs
[Verse 4]
While the years they come and go
Now, your love must surely show me
That beyond all time and space
We're together face to face, my Apple Scruffs
[Chorus]
Apple Scruffs, Apple Scruffs
How I love you, how I love you
There was a group of fans called “Apple Scruffs”, who would stay outside the Abbey Road Studios, to see the Beatles walk in and out. To passengers they looked a bit like homeless people, someone said who often walked past them.
The scruffs have been around for so long, through the thick and thin from what they knew and what they didn’t know. Through the start of Beatlemania to the end of the Beatles when Paul left. They’ve been through it all, supporting all four in their further ventures.
This line pertains to when the Beatles had gone through hard ships between their final years, and the music they had put out around this time pleasuring fans outside of the obvious blunders within the band.
Perhaps the most simple verse of the bunch; the conclusion of the love letter to the scruffs.
The years, at this very point, would have nearly added up to a decade. From the long-timers from Pool and Hamburg, to the newly cozied members.
