I stand on the edge

Wondering why all must end

These questions just a memory

Of all that is bittersweet

We cede it all

To deny ourselves

The chance to control

If we stand tall

Or become a shell

A heart with no soul

I want the will

To decide if I

Will reap what I have sown

A somber tone as this

Stream of consciousness

Flows into the unknown

We yearn to be free

Of responsibility

Illusions of pre-destiny

Take red hands

And try to wash them clean

The leaves will rustle on the trees

Nature will remain in harmony

Memories passing like the breeze

Now that seventeen no longer breathe

The sun will rise and set again

In passing moments we pretend

That in the silence we’ll see our friends

Time heals all wounds but scars don’t mend

Far below where eagles soar

The raven’s rapping at the door

As tell-tale hearts lie on the floor

They’re ripped apart and spewing gore

While victims shaken to the core

Their voices raised up to implore

For compassion towards the drained and sore

Through the chaos they hear the roar

Of thoughts and prayers but nothing more

But I was there in that sleepy town

When those trying to fly were brought to the ground

And I witnessed the endless siren sounds

Which signaled that safety may never be found

I walked amongst those at arm’s length with the dead

Limbs drawn close in futility, praying instead

‘Cause they’ll lie down all night wide awake in their beds

Knowing they could’ve taken a bullet to their heads

We cede it all

To deny ourselves

The chance to control

If we stand tall

Or become a shell

A heart with no soul

I want the will

To decide if I

Will reap what I have sown

A somber tone as this

Stream of consciousness

Flows into the unknown

This must be enough

This must be enough

This must be enough

This must be enough

This must be enough

This must be enough

This must be enough

This must be enough

But it won’t be

Until next time
