Through the Dark

That was long ago

Count on my fingers

The days I know

The words you taught me

And I learned to go

Inside and outside the fold

Captivated by such matters

Obsessed with the dark

Took me to places

Where I recognized the mark

Apathy and derisive wit

Children now are born with it

Clothed in the finest tatters

Just gold

No further does a heartbeat warrant love

Nor does rain and signs from above

You’ve mastered the metrics

But your measurement’s assured

You’ve lost the word

When did you think you’d fall down?

That was long ago

Count on my fingers

The days I know

The words you taught me

And I learned to go

Inside and outside the fold
