My "Check Engine" light's been on since I bought this car

It's been a year I'm suprised that I got this far

I mean fuck, it's a step up from riding the bus

But i can't afford insurance so the cops I'm tryna duck

And living off a bridge card is rough

Which runs out every month a week before it fills up

I'm just tryna eat that last week I feel defeated

Got me stressed and I can't even have a good time when I'm weeded

Smoking trees with friends but ain't got shit to match

I'm just lucky that a buzz around here ain't hard to catch

I hate being broke as fuck my homies always smoke me up

But when i got the cash I got you back I hope you know what's up

And I hate the fact that I can't buy myself new clothes

Closet still got half the clothes I wore in school four years ago

Always wondering if anybody notices

Sometimes I wonder if it's obvious I'm broke as shit

Losing focus on school I'm close to that degree

But I'm nervous that my student loans will be too much for me

I studied what I love and that's gon' bite me in the ass

And I'll be damned if I admit I should have listened to my dad

But I'm the first one in my family to go to school

So don't blame me if I wanna get paid to play with Pro Tools

Sometimes I think I'll never catch a buzz like O'Doul's

And I'll be stuck in this recliner eating cold food

It's hard to pull through with bill collectors callin' me

Leaving voicemails everyday they followin' me

Feel like they followin' me

They taking all of me

I try to run away, but I can't escape

I try to run away, but I can't escape

I try to run away, but I can't escape

Take a look at me through your beams

I be so stressed out I just wanna scream

(Brett Hanson Vocals)

Verse 2:

This that Ramen noodle rap when you poor you glued to that

Your mom be spoonin' that sayin "here you go you Brat's"

Your house be filled with traps for bugs and mice and rats

Got a dog and two cats the couch they chewin' that

The one that you sat on and sounded like it cracked

If you sat down for two long it's fucking with your back

But nothing fixes that mini heart attack

When you check the cabinet have no more Kool-Aid packs

I remember when we all got cable

That was the last time that we all got stable

Callin Mom up as much as I'm able

But you never really know when her phone got disabled

Kitchenette always smells like Cigarettes

Got a computer with no internet

Powder on the table Mom's nose all in that

This is the home I was once living at

I try to run away, but I can't escape

I try to run away, but I can't escape

I try to run away, but I can't escape

Take a look at me through your beams

I be so stressed out I just wanna scream

Pt. 2 (The American Dream)

(Sample)

Verse1:

I feel like I done said this shit so much that it’s repetitive

I gotta take the steps to hit the level that a legend is

It’s business etiquette to brainwash the pessimist

Informercial messages directed at the desperate like

(3 easy payments then your free from all the lame shit

For just a couple paychecks get away on a vacation

They say whatever you want in life take it

It’s amazing how much they let that phrase bend

Television stations all in the same rotation

So you can’t ever a-void all the sales presentations

I ain't accustomed to consuming nothing custom bout customers

They bunch us and clump us, disrupt and interrupt us

Pushin they agenda they punch kick and bend us

Stick us in a blenda drink us with a touch of splenda

That’s why I recommend ya do what truly interests ya

Don’t let the money depress ya or you’ll end up like the rest of us

(like the rest of us…)

Let the money be the death of ya your boss can host the funeral

They got your time and energy your body will be soon to go

So get in line cooperate defiance isn’t suitable

So put that suit and tie on, the lies they must look beautiful

Believe that, believe that, the truth cuts deep you better bleed that
