Although Drake’s Dad Dennis Graham has been absent throughout Drake’s life, Drake obviously still has a place inside of him with some love for his pops even throughout the trauma he had to endure.

Where Drake is right now leaves little room for him to be vulnerable in his music, but there is a slight bit of irony since he’s put this on the biggest project of the year and he adds the stutter for effect to show he’s hiding that vulnerability. Lately, Drake’s musical persona switched up with releases like “0-100/The Catch Up” and “6 God,” which might have left some of his day one fans, and possibly even his momma, behind leaving them to wonder what happened to that old Drake.

Drake gets back down to Earth and realizes his father, who may have not been present his whole life, is a human being who can make mistakes.
And given his father’s plead for forgiveness, Drake becomes mature enough to forgive him and realize that he is a human too.

After talking about his mom in the first verse, Drake does an 180 and opens up on the dad topic.

The popular idea that you can only perfectly manifest what you have experienced is very common in music; from drug dealers knowing how to rap about drugs to heartbroken people knowing how to sing their heart out.

In this verse, Drake addresses his mother’s tendency to disapprove of his relationships and suggest alternative partners she considers more suitable.
“That girl from your gym who trains you” is widely believed to reference a real person, not a metaphor.

A gym trainer who claims to train Drake’s mother has stated that this lyric refers directly to her and that the verse was inspired by that dynamic.

Drake ultimately frames the woman as someone outside his celebrity lifestyle — ideal in theory, but incompatible with the realities of fame and timing.

Drake’s dad may not have had a strong presence in his life when he was growing up, but he made sure to steer him down the right path when he could. He also wasn’t the most conventional and protective father, as he was letting Drake shoot guns as a child, but when he was around, he made sure that Drake stayed out of trouble. This could have been the difference that allowed Drake to remain off the streets and pursue music.

Weston is one of the most dangerous areas in Toronto, earning itself the title “Toronto’s Murder Capital.” Drake is originally from Weston, but he later moved to the more affluent area of Forest Hill, also in Toronto.

He has mentioned Eglinton Road before.

Drake expresses how vengeful he is to people who he’s been betrayed or threatened by.

The “Game of Thrones” television series is notorious for it’s unflinching violence and the constant plot twists. Drake compares his position in the rap game to what they do in the Game of Thrones. While “Home Alone” is a popular film about a young boy who uses violent & creative tactics to fend off burglars during Christmas time. Drake compares his tactics to the tactics of the young boy.

Dropping this album unexpectedly was just one of his many strategies to continue his take over.

Drake’s father, a professional jazz and soul drummer, had a profound musical influence on him.

Drake said to GQ in 2012:

When my dad drove me to Memphis one time from Toronto, it was a 20-something hour drive. I brought my Doggystyle cassette. I asked him, “Dad, can I please play this? Mom won’t let me play it in the house.” He was like, “Yeah. You can play it for 20 minutes. And then we listen to an hour of my music…It really was pivotal for me because I started listening to the melodies and the emotion in this music that he was playing me. It grabbed me maybe even a little more than that Doggystyle cassette did. I would say that I’m more moved by melody, even though I love to rap.

This line is an example of an Oxymoron. The concept of not taking advice is in itself a piece of advice, therefore contradicting itself. Drake acknowledges this by saying “that was great advice”

Drake’s Dad, Dennis Graham, dropped a single called “Kinda Crazy”.

He feels that this is “his window” because he’s always referred to as Drake’s father, and someone who is very successful in the music industry. He wants some of the action and to make a name for himself.

Not to mention he’s addressing the controversy over whether Drake might feel that his father is trying to eat off his fame. Despite not directly addressing the issue, Drake mentioning the subject makes him seem somewhat accepting. Not to mention the single will get EVEN MORE attention now that Drake acknowledged it on his surprise album.

Although Drake is from Toronto, his dad was originally from Memphis Tennessee. After the divorce Drake got to experience his dad’s perspective in Memphis when he was moving back and forth which is why he salutes him.

Even after the divorce Drake can tell that his father will always have some love for Drake’s mother despite the terms that they are currently on.

Back on “Club Paradise”, Drake’s mom took a far different stance on his women, actually making the effort to check up on them.

Drake, however, has also changed, no longer searching for new girls, but instead hoping to get approval on the one(s) in his life.

Drake’s rapped before about how he feels guilty for living lavish while his father’s living hand to mouth:

Cause my dad called and got me feeling guilty and ashamed
Like, how I had a Rolls and I went and got a Range
And he paying for his cigarettes with dollars and some change
Damn, and I could only feel his pain
Cause in Memphis Tennessee there’s only so much to attain

With the amount of money and the lavish lifestyle Drake has, it would be selfish of him to not forgive his father. Forgiveness wouldn’t hurt him any. Drake questions how he and his mom could reject someone who admits his wrongs and isn’t asking for money, but only for forgiveness.

Drake was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1986, and although his father has been absent, his mother – and his city – raised him well.

Note that his recurring use of “The 6” refers to Toronto’s two area codes, the 416 and the 647. Drake seems to have created this brand himself.

Drizzy is Jewish Canadian, and he attended a Jewish Day School and even had a Bar Mitzvah, probably due to his mother’s influence.

Drake has said that when his father was in prison, he would rap over the phone to his dad’s cellmate, who also wrote raps.

Drake won the Grammy for Best Rap Album for Take Care at the 2013 Grammys. He thinks his father’s support from prison may have helped him get there.

In this interview, mostly discussing the release of his third studio album, Drake mentions rapping on the phone with his dad’s cell mate, a homeless rapper that went by the name Poverty.

He knows he needs to call his mom more, he’s just so busy

Every time he has a feature or is featured on a song, he’s saying he’s the better part of the song

Drake doesn’t have to time to text back, so his mom reads about him from the internet, making sure she’s notified whenever there’s a new alert. This also touches on the subject that she was a single mom.

Growing up Jewish was hard for Drake while being black, yet he stays true to himself instead of pretending to be hard and tough or that he’s from a different area to sell his music.

This line can be read as a diss towards Tyga, considering Drake’s other shots at him on this album, combined with allegations that Tyga did not actually grow up in Compton.

Note the parallels that Drake draws to the bar a few lines up:

He made me listen to his music, old music, soul music // Shit that can be created only if you go through it

It certainly seems like Drake is implying that Tyga, and others throughout the music industry, are not making soul music because they didn’t go through it.

For for Vibe’s Winter 2014 issue–also called “The Race Issue”, Drake spoke to as a child having to deal with kids, who did not understand that he could share black and Jewish identity.“The racism I experienced was being Jewish,“ "Jewish kids didn’t understand how I could be black and Jewish…It was just stupid, annoying rich kids that were close-minded and mean."

He might no longer be a kid, but for his entire rap career he has been criticized for not being “hard” enough and fought being called “soft.” But at this point most rappers no matter where they come from would do anything for a co-sign for call from his phone.

Ever since Kendrick took aim at Drake on his infamous Control verse, Drake has had no shortage of beefs.

By 2021, Drake had beefed with Meek Mill, Pusha T, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and plenty more.

When you’re the king of hip hop, you’re gonna get aimed at by everyone else in the game. Hip hop is similar to Game of Thrones in that way. Drake feels like he’s in some deep shit.

He’s getting assassinated left and right.

He is the King of the North, after all.

Drake at this point is wrapping up listing the accomplishments he has achieved. Though he’ll never be able to get rid of the emotional loss of not always having his father around when growing up, at this point he is gonna let bygones be bygones and look to their future together.
