The Burden

I bit my tongue last Thursday

(spit) silver into the sink

They sold my name to the ether

For less than I thought I’d think

Paper gods in a briefcase

(count it) breath like it’s gold

My spine was traded for

Someone’s breadcrumbs on a plate

Static in my bones

Choir in my head

Madness wearing my dress

My walk, my name

Every little breakdown

Something must be fed

I ought to carry

Perfect burden

While the world

Blurred in

I ought to carry

Perfect burden

You gotta worry

Cuz of Durden

They auctioned me

To outer worlds for copper

Tongue cut out and

Packaged up for trade

I've been speaking to the version

Living underneath my manners

Grow in what they hollowed

A velvet fist behind the blade

I was sold to the outer

Outer worlds made of teeth

For a handful of nothing

For a crust underneath

Going mad —

Deliberately

Sanity is just

The leash

Every small delusion

Snapping into maps

I ought to carry

Perfect burden

While the world

Blurred in

I ought to carry

Perfect burden

You gotta worry

Cuz of Durden

Whole before they named me

Whole after the burning

Every world they sold me to

Became a kingdom

I split —

Clean down the center

No anesthesia

I fed the hunger

I named the fever

And start taking

Madness —

Is a language

I’m finally

Fluent in

Cracked crown

And wear it steady

No gods left

To defend me

Breadcrumb life

They tried to sell me

I devoured

Every penny

So here he comes —

My Tyler, my Durden

Stop performing

The perfect burden

Now set it down and

Watch him burn

I ought to carry —

No —

To release

Perfect burden

Perfect burden

Whole in the fracture

Calm in the chaos

You gotta worry

Cuz of Durden

Break

Into myself —

And coexist

Set it down and

Watch him burn
