He's the Mercy Seat, but God is above it in the cloud
So you could still fall and be sprawled, deceased on the ground
God is sovereign, He allows what He is pleased to allow
If Christ took the people's wrath, He was appeasing the crowds
There's no point in God's mercy if His fury's not aroused
It's what makes the good news so good, no evil around!

Woulda been perfectly just, still He sent the Messiah
Who is God in the flesh and so they were one in their goal
And it is not that the Lord's wrath needs somewhere to go
Simply, it's that His wrath was expressed in the act itself
And without it, we change the way that we react to Hell
Because when you take out the wrath, then you take out the weight
Like bodybuilders who order take out all day
God has wrath against sin and Christ became sin in our place
So, Christ took wrath on the cross when it was finished that day!
Out of love and not as an involuntary victim
God is too holy to not be angry at sin!

God wasn't satisfied that He was crushed because of the hordes
Jesus was agonized, sweating blood, 'cause the cup was the Lord's!
God made blood sacrifice central when Abel killed his lambs
If Christ wasn't smitten by Him, the Law still condemns!
Did He come to shut His own law down or to fulfill it?
Jesus took the cup reserved for those on whom He'd spill it!
The Lord's jealous and He is furious and vengeance is His
Do not take lightly the many mentions of it
What's the flood if not His wrath against the sin of the world?
And it's heading to destruction as it spins and it whirls
Like His jealousy, His wrath is unlike any human's
Because we are flawed and not God, that needs refuting!

Romans 5, verse 6 and verse 8 - it says:
"For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly"
And then verse 8:
"but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us"
Jesus left Heaven and came forward
And He lived His perfect life
And He went forward in our place and offered Himself up as a sacrifice to be condemned
To suffer and die on the cross
