We are not ready to jump freely

These are giant baby steps that we are taking

We are vocabularising our feelings about sex and our love making

There are random bits of information flying 'round our heads that we're mistaking

For the truth that feigns affection just to cover up for all that it's been faking

And I don't know how to love you

I truly wish I did. I truly wish I didn't have the heart of a ten year old kid

But that might always be my problem

That my heart just doesn't see a really really good thing

When it stands in front of me

And so we sit up and talk about love

Like it's the only thing we'd need

To turn this sketchy "don't know" into a firm "indeed"

And the words they fall out of our mouths like

The excuse knew its route, like the guy who jumps out of a plane, but always with a parachute

So we sit inside the cockpit and climb 10,000 feet above our mis-communication

With a constant flow of oxygen to ease the constant pain of our heart aching

Cause we are not ready to jump freely, these are giant baby steps that we are taking

But a leap of faith is all it's going to take us to survive a fall that follows real love making

I don't know how to love you

I truly wish I did. I truly wish I didn't have the heart of a ten year old kid

But that might always be my problem

That my heart just doesn't see a really really good thing

When it stands in front of me

And so we sit up and talk about love

Like it's the only thing we'd need

To turn this sketchy "don't know" into a firm "indeed"

And the words they fall out of our mouths like

The excuse knew its route, like the guy who jumps out of a plane, but always with a parachute
