[Verse 1]

I Spy picture book page with the gummy bears

Nonchalantly looking for my solace if it’s under there

Young age, but my reading level’s Empire State

Seeking heaven’s better seating’s an acquired taste

Scanning for lines in pixely mass-produced images

Enchanting new trick isn’t half what you think it is

Cancerous news tickers with blasphemous views riddled in

Masks and spools hidden with tasks and clues written in

I Spy random deaths on the telly

White lies while my hands and chest rattle heavy

Those books make me think of my great-grandmother

Courtesy of Antoinette Patricelli

Barely even six but I was searching

Wondering why I was so imperfect

Twenty-one now still learning

Hit the I Spy books, unearthing

[Chorus]

I Spy, tell me what you see

Found what I’m looking for, what a relief

Time that I’m searching, too brief

I Spy, tell what you need

I Spy, tell me what you see

Found what I’m looking for, what a relief

Time that I’m searching, too brief

I Spy, tell what you need

[Verse 2]

Pointer finger running over gold spines

Brittle nervous system scoliosis just like old times

Plastic beach shovels hover underneath my scope’s sight

Mind’s on loop, don’t cry, don’t cry

I Spy sixty pages in the stack

Every one is a distraction from baseless, vicious tactics

My brain enlists to grab this patience that I had

And make it an attack on the painless interactions

What a torturous past

Pages never ripped when I tore ‘em in half

Masters of war warning my ass

To look for more books to hoard of course that ward off the bad

Hold up, so young, I was dealing with some old shit

Depression and anxiety aren’t only for grown ups

Had some picture books to draw out the kid in me

I Spy brief respite from the misery, uh

[Outro]

Brief respite from the misery

I spy brief respite from the misery, uh

Brief respite from the misery

Brief respite from the misery
