The streetlights closed their amber eyes
As the ambulance howled away
The morning light brings soft respite
But I wish the night could stay
You’re chainsmoking cigarettes
To stave off the cold
You want the snow to fall early now
So you don’t have to be alone
The lights came up as the sun fell
The ground turned orange from grey
We turned and ran to our private hells
But these are facts that we can’t change
I can only wonder
If I even cried
