Before the narrator met his loved one, loneliness continuously wrapped him in sadness, like a snowball picking up snow as it rolls down a mountain. However, when he met his loved one, the loneliness and sadness that he was experiencing lessened as he spent more time with his beloved. Love and happiness replaced the negative emotions that he had, like the warm sunshine melting the cold snow.

The protagonist’s girlfriend noticed that he looks different lately. Ironically, what he’s experiencing is not a problem at all, just confusion from falling head-over-heels in love.

Lightning is generally symbolic of something ominous and foreboding but the narrator and his love are likely watching it from afar where they are not in danger and using it as an example of the wonders of nature. It’s also a shared experience that they’re creating together.
